Tour details

Morning Departure: Begin the expedition from the coastal city of Aktau, heading deep into the semi-desert wilderness of the Mangystau region. Macro & Texture Session: Our first major photography stop is Ushchel'ye Ybykty (widely known as Lace Canyon). Spend time exploring its labyrinth of intricate, porous rock formations that look like hand-carved lace—an absolute paradise for abstract and texture photography. Golden Hour Dunes: Continue to the Tuesu Sand Dunes to capture the warm, golden light of the late afternoon. The pristine, sweeping ridges offer perfect conditions for clean desert compositions, minimalist frames, and dramatic shadow play. Iconic Sunset: As the sun begins to set, frame the majestic Gora Bokty (Mount Bokty), a striking, isolated pyramid-shaped mountain. Watch the chalk and clay layers shift colors in the fading light. Blue Hour at Tiramisu Canyon: Wrap up the shooting day at Kyzylkum (Kyzylkup), famously dubbed the "Tiramisu Canyon" for its remarkably vivid, layered red-and-white landscapes. The soft evening light perfectly accentuates these geologic stripes. Overnight: Conclude the day with an unforgettable wild camping experience under a pristine, unpolluted night sky—perfect for astrophotography.

Sunrise Session: Begin the day before dawn to capture the first light breaking over the spectacular upper panoramic viewpoints of Bozzhyra. The early morning sun brings out the immense contrast and deep shadows of the iconic limestone peaks. Composition Workshops: Spend the morning exploring multiple vantage points and creative angles along the high plateaus, perfect for wide-angle landscape compositions and capturing the sheer scale of the terrain. Valley Descent: Journey down into the lower floor of the Bozzhyra valley. This perspective allows you to frame the towering chalk castles and "fangs" from below, adding incredible depth and an impressive sense of scale to your shots. Overnight: Enjoy another magical night of wild camping directly inside the Bozzhyra valley, offering prime opportunities for twilight and astrophotography against the stark white cliffs.

Morning Trek: Embark on an early morning hike to the Bozzhyra Middle Panorama. This vantage point offers the definitive, world-famous view of the "Fangs" from above—solidly regarded as one of the most iconic landscape viewpoints in all of Central Asia. Expedition Transfer: Following the morning shoot, pack up camp and begin our overland transfer toward the dramatic salt flats and chalk walls of Sor Tuzbair. Sunset at the White Cliffs: Arrive at the lower cliffs of Sor Tuzbair in time for the golden hour. The setting sun illuminates the monumental limestone walls, creating a minimalist masterclass of stark white desert compositions, endless horizons, and deep geometric shadows. Overnight: Set up camp in the heart of Sor Tuzbair. Sleep under an expansive desert sky, with the giant chalk formations providing a dramatic silhouette for night photography.

Sunrise at the Salt Flats: Wake up early to catch the first light at the Tuzbair Upper Panorama. Watch the sun rise over the endless, dazzling white salt crust and dramatic limestone arches—a spectacular scene for high-contrast morning landscape photography. The Sacred Mountain: Depart Tuzbair and head toward the legendary Mount Sherkala, famously known as the "Lion Mountain." This lone, majestic limestone monolith resembles a giant yurt or a sleeping lion from different angles, offering an incredible subject for architectural and scale shots. The Valley of Castles: Continue your journey to the Airakty-Shomanai massif, poetically named the "Valley of Castles." Explore its surreal network of remnant mountains, sheer cliffs, and spire-like rock formations that mimic prehistoric fortresses, catching the brilliant late-afternoon light. Overnight Ethno-Experience: Conclude the day at the Kogez Ethno Village, a beautifully designed campsite nestled in the foothills. Experience a memorable overnight stay in an authentic Kazakh yurt, beautifully decorated with traditional nomadic ornaments and equipped with modern comforts—the perfect combination of cultural immersion and relaxation after days of exploration.

The Oasis of Kokala: Begin your morning exploring the green oasis of Kokala, a striking contrast of vibrant vegetation nestled against eroded clay hills, perfect for early light photography. The Valley of Balls: Venture into the mysterious Torysh, famously known as the Valley of Balls. This endless field is scattered with thousands of massive, perfectly spherical stone concretions—a true geological enigma that provides a surreal backdrop for conceptual and landscape compositions. The Underground Rock Mosque: Discover the historical and spiritual heart of the region at the Shakpak Ata Necropolis and Underground Mosque. Carved directly into the side of a limestone cliff, this unique 10th-century sanctuary features intricate rock-cut columns and ancient inscriptions, offering an incredible interior photography session. The White Chalk Canyon: Walk through the monumental Kapamsay Canyon. This dramatic, sheer limestone canyon features towering chalk walls that slice through the landscape toward the Caspian coast, creating immense depth and striking shadow contrasts. Overnight on the Coast: Conclude your day at the Sartas Visitor Center. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay in guest rooms right by the scenic Caspian coastline, combining remote wilderness exploration with welcoming hospitality.
The Fallen Earth: Begin the final day of exploration at the monumental Zhygylgan cavity, dramatically known as the "Fallen Earth." This massive geological collapse has created a vast, surreal labyrinth of shattered limestone blocks, giant boulders, and deep fractures along the sea cliff — an incredible site for capturing dramatic textures and high-altitude panoramic views. The Heart of the Desert: Hike down into the collapse to discover Kuzdykary Lake, a hidden, naturally formed heart-shaped lake that offers a striking geometric contrast against the rugged terrain. The Oasis of Turtles: Continue your journey to Saura Canyon and its hidden lake. Surrounded by steep rock walls in the middle of a dry steppe, this lush canyon is a true natural oasis and home to a rare population of freshwater Caspian turtles. Coastal Relaxation: Take a relaxing stroll along Saura Beach on the pristine shores of the Caspian Sea, enjoying the coastal breeze and capturing the minimalist seascape. Return Transfer: In the late afternoon, enjoy a smooth return drive back to Aktau. Transfer to your hotel for a comfortable overnight stay, marking the conclusion of an unforgettable Mangystau expedition.
